BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE performances of the artistes for this year’s Soca Monarch Competition could be described as electrifying and energetic, but could the Federation see one artiste walking away with both Groovy and Power titles as TakeOver did last year?
SKNVibes Entertainment has been monitoring the special appearances of some of the artiste who made themselves available to perform at a number of events leading up to their big night on (Dec. 12).
However, based on a survey poll, conducted at the Semi-Finals, it was suggested that the controversial Mr. Hype could be the rising artiste to win both Groovy and Power categories of this competition.
The survey suggested that for the Groovy category, 45 percent of the fans favoured the likes of Mr. Hype for the top honours as against the 44 percent, which said that the native from Nevis, Allie D, could be the eventual winner.
Seems like a national election, but any of the remaining monarchy hopefuls would be well-deserving of the title.
Sixty-five percent of the survey also agreed that the contenders for this year’s crowns were excellent in their execution of performances as against 35 percent that disagreed.
As an artiste entering both arenas, Mr. Hype, just like a number of his fellow competitors, displayed not only a standard of performance seen on the regional platforms, but for St. Kitts and Nevis it is big improvement compared with previous years.
But like SKNVibes Entertainment keeps reiterating, anything can happen at the Finals.
So far, in this media house’s opinion, based on his first performance and his presentation on the night of the Semi-Finals, the most improved artiste for the season is none other than the ‘Turkey Killer’, Hot Rod.
Hot Rod has been pulling together a huge fan base of women, but with his congratulated efforts thus far, if he is to win this title he will need to pull an unforgettable trick out of his hat in the Finals.
