    Bricklyn resident fined EC$15 000 for marijuana possession

    ~~Adz:Right~~CHARLESTOWN, Nevis - A BRICKLYN resident, Andre Maynard (45), was yesterday (Jan. 27) fined EC$15 000 by Magistrate Yasmine Clarke for being in possession of 18 parcels of marijuana.

     

    Maynard, who pleaded guilty, was found with the controlled drugs on November 24, 2008. Police Prosecutor, Inspector Andre Mitchell told the court that on the day in question Maynard threw a bag onto a tree when he saw the police. 

     

    A police officer retrieved a black plastic bag from the tree and found that it contained the drugs packed in 18 transparent plastic bags.

     

    Maynard was given three months to pay the fine or spend 18 months in jail.

     

    In the same court, Analdo Browne of New River was fined EC$2 000 for wounding Denis Manners on November 20, 2008 at the Drag Race Track. Manners sustained head injuries and was taken to the Alexandra Hospital where he received six stitches. Browne is expected to pay the fine within three months or face six months imprisonment.

     

    Meanwhile, Bernard Patrick was fined EC$500 for driving recklessly at the Gingerland Bus Stop. He will pay the fine in two months or serve one month in jail.
