BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - TESSANNE CHIN has done it!
Last night (Dec.17), the 28-year Jamaican Songtress was declared winner of the popular US reality singing competition The Voice aired on Channel NBC.
The aspiring artiste has landed a recording contract and a $1 000 000 cash prize for winning the competition, which has now concluded its fifth season.
Tessanne Chin attained victory also for her celebrity coach Adam Levine. Her team mate Will Champlin walked away with third place while 16-year-old Jacquie Lee was placed second.
On Monday night (Dec. 16), Tessanne Chin gave a show-stopping performance as she belted out ‘I Have Nothing’; a popular classic by the late Whitney Houston.
Jamaican flags waved in the audience and also a red patriotic shirt depicting 'Jamaica Land We Love' was also signalled in the audience by the proud Jamaicans.
After it was announced that she was adjudged the winner, Tessanne Chin was emotionally overwhelmed as she expressed, "Oh my God...oh my God!
As expected, in the patriotic land of Jamaica, there was a carnival-like atmosphere immediately following the live announcement of Tessanne Chin's victory.
Particularly in the community of Half Way Tree, viewers who tuned in via a big screen television carried on in celebratory mood upon the announcement of the big news, and a video capturing that moment has gone viral.
The live-recorded show featured some mega performances including one with Tessanne Chin and Celine Dion; an artiste who Tessanne Chin has longed admired. The duo performed Celine Dion’s popular song - ‘Love Can Move Mountain’.
Neyo, One Republic and Lady Gaga also performed on the live show.
Tessanne Chin's win, of course, has come as no surprise since she has proven over and over during the competition that she is an amazing artiste.
She definitely won the hearts of the voting public in the US and other eligible territories who threw their support behind her talent in helping to make her name global.
And, of course, Jamaicans residing in the US and other eligible territories were among those in the voting public who made sure to vote for Tessanne; not forgetting other Caribbean nationals as well.
Tessanne Chin, a former back-up singer for the living Jamaican Reggae icon Jimmy Cliff, made her debut performance at the annual St. Kitts Music Festival in 2007.
Her popular songs include 'Hide Away', 'Broken Melody', 'Messenger' and 'Never Let Me Go' featuring popular Jamaican Reggae and Dancehall artiste Shaggy.
Following her announced win, showered with confetti, Tessanne Chin performed a new single written for the winner called ‘Tumbling Down’.
