Calypso fans disappointed over De Unexpected absence

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – MANY calypso fans in St. Kitts and Nevis were disappointed after not seeing one of the most popular calypsonians in the Federation contributing to Sugar Mas 42.

Disappointing his fans, De Unexpected, who is known for his witty calypsos that smacks at the government, failed to show up at the Calypso Tents to participate in the competition.

Curious as to why he was absent, SKNVibes contacted the calypsonian and questioned if his absence was a sign of boycotting the competition.

“Boycott...I ain’t sign a contract with nobody to sing every year. So because I did not sing, is that a boycott? I also heard Socrates in a song said that Unexpected and Big Lice didn’t sing because they are boycotting. Tell them I say that I wish and I pray to God that the Carnival Committee and the tents would pay calypsonians,” was his response.

De Unexpected also stated that whenever he performs he normally walks away with nothing and that was the main contributing factor why he decided not participate.

“At the end of the day, when we finish performing all over, we get nothing and I am not a beggar and I ain’t must sing, but I had songs to sing.”

Over the years, De Unexpected has been a huge hit at the calypso tents with some of his top songs which include ‘Economic Parasite,’ ‘Dougie Focus’, ‘Give dem de Dougie’, ‘Full a Fork’ and ‘One Spot’.
