King Konris gives back to community

King Konris hands over $1000 donation to representative of Advancement of Children Foundation

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – INDICATIVE of his belief in taking action as opposed to indulging in mere “talk”, four-time Calypso Monarch King Konris has recently given back to the community through contributions to three non-profit organisations.

On Sunday (Jan. 25), King Konris held true to a promise made before he won his last crown to give 10 percent of his winnings to a religious organisation.

Pastor Lincoln Connor, leader of the Antioch Baptist Church, in an exclusive interview with SKNVibes explained that the idea was birthed when the finalists worshiped at that church the Sunday prior to the Calypso Finals.

“The Sunday prior to the Finals, the finalists came collectively to worship and during the sermon, I had indicated that the persons who wins the show...should give 10 percent of their winnings to the church; 10 percent because scripture teaches tithing. Most people passed it off just as jest...Konris won and knowing the integrity of the young man, he wanted to make true on the commitment. So, he did indicate after he had won that he was going to make the 10 percent pledge to the church.”

Pastor Connor explained that on Sunday King Konris handed over the 10 percent and he [Connor] accepted and thanked him for his contribution.

The church’s leader said the King’s contribution speaks to his “credibility and the overall commitment to and his involvement in the community”.

Yesterday (Jan. 28) at the Police Training Complex, the four-peat Calypso Monarch handed over donations of $1 000 each to the Police Boys Club and the Advancement for Children Foundation.

During the ceremony representatives of both clubs thanked the young man for the interest he has taken in the younger generation, their advancement and, by extension, the forward thrust of the country.

Founded in December, 2007, the Police Boys Club is geared at inculcating the minds of at-risk youths with those morals and values including “leadership skills and good character”, which would assist them in becoming better citizens.

The Advancement of Children Foundation is a collaborative effort between the two Rotary Clubs in St. Kitts, members of the corporate community and a government official. It was launched last November to promote and improve parenting in the Federation, thereby having a positive impact on the current crime situation.
