Basseterre, St. Kitts (December 20, 2013) – Two of the most sincere things that ought be done during Christmas is to give selflessly and to share smiles- this is exactly the aim of Digicel St Kitts & Nevis during the yuletide season. Using Digicel’s Brighter Christmas App via Facebook, customers were encouraged to nominate a loved one deserving of a special treat this Christmas and for that selected person to receive a surprise visit from Digicel’s Secret Santa Team.
The second recipient of Digicel’s Secret Santa crusade was Bernadine Warde of Dieppe Bay. Bernadine is a mother of five who works for minimum wage, however, even with a small salary she still makes sacrifices to give to those around her. Bernadine was anonymously nominated by her friend Jacelyn who described her as very “humble, loving and generous – pretty much like a second mother”.
Armed with helium balloons and a secret tip from Jacelyn regarding Bernadine’s exact location last week Friday, the Digicel Secret Santa crew ambushed Bernadine in the heart of Basseterre loaded with a mini Christmas tree, a bag filled with groceries, a BLU Tank handset with a new sim card with $100 credit, two movie tickets and a bag filled with lots of other Digicel goodies.
Bernadine was obviously caught off-guard and wondered if all the excitement from Digicel was truly in her honour. She expressed how happy and surprised she was: “I was waiting here because Jacelyn told me she was coming; I can’t believe this is what she was up to”. Both Bernadine and Jacelyn were ecstatic and thanked Digicel for recognizing them both this Christmas.
The island of Nevis is also feeling the joy of a Brighter Digicel Christmas. On Monday afternoon of December 16, Nurse Pamela Jones received a surprize visit from Digicel’s Sales & Marketing Rep in Nevis, Yasmine Hanley. Nurse Jones’ daughter Kerlyn nominated her mother to receive a gift package from Digicel for the selfless care she gives to patients daily.
Digicel’s fourth Secret Santa mission was to surprise Sheila Liburd, affectionately called “Miss Sheila”. Nominated by her daughter Karla, Miss Sheila was described as a very humble lady who sells food in Basseterre. She would often be seen giving food to those who cannot afford and lending a hand to the Special Education Unit where she has a child enrolled.
With Team Secret Santa once again loaded with Digicel balloons and goodies, they made their way to Buckley’s and gave Miss Sheila a surprise she would never forget. Miss Sheila was totally speechless at first but was all smiles and began sharing hugs after the excitement calmed down. “You bought my favourite cereal!” she exclaimed while laughing. “I thank God for his mercies every day and thank you too Digicel, and to my lovely daughter Karla for nominating me, she is truly a blessing” said Miss Sheila.
Three truly inspiring stories - three extraordinary and deserving women, given smiles this Christmas by Digicel St Kitts & Nevis. Digicel- Be Extraordinary.
