ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, December 23 – Managing Director of the British Virgin Islands Ports Authority (BVIPA) Mr. Claude O. Skelton Cline presented a cheque in the amount of $1,000 to the Director of the BVI Red Cross Mrs. Helen Frett earlier today. The monies were funds raised by the BVIPA for those affected by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.

The Cabinet Office also made a contribution through the BVIPA’s outreach.

On the occasion, Mr. Cline commented: “It is fantastic that the BVI Ports Authority and others could bless the people of the Philippines with this gift just in time for Christmas. We are in the midst of the season of giving and I am grateful to my staff and others who have demonstrated their generosity and caring for others.”

During the hand over, Mr. Cline told the Mrs. Frett that he was happy to be the messenger of such a gift and that the BVIPA will be delighted to assist the non-profit organisation in other endeavours.

Mrs. Frett thanked Mr. Cline for the donation and said that the funds will be sent to the Red Cross office in the Philippines shortly. She also noted that the BVI Red Cross is still collecting funds and encouraged others to also contribute.

Human Resources Manager Ms. Sophia Cupid, who led the fundraising efforts, was also present at today’s cheque hand over.

The BVI Ports Authority is charged with facilitating the safe, efficient and effective operation of the related cargoes and passengers transiting the BVI’s seaports.
