Isaiah Chapter 9 and verse 6 tells us - For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Virgin Islands family and friends, on behalf of my family and the industrious public servants of the Ministry of Education and Culture and all of its departments and units, it is my pleasure as Minister of Education and Culture to wish one and all in these Virgin Islands, a very merry Christmas.

At this time of year, we recall and celebrate the most important gift the world has been given, the birth of Jesus Christ. For us Christians He truly is a wonderful counselor, mighty God, everlasting Father and the Prince of Peace. Because of His love for us, He gave of His life, so that we can live forever more.

We must ask ourselves daily, what will we do with the gift of life that has been given to us? One of the most inspiring traits the Bible tells us of Jesus, is about his love and service to those that were less fortunate.

Though our islands have been blessed with a relatively stable economy, we must remember that even within our community, live brothers and sisters that from time to time may need a helping hand. We have brothers and sisters that are experiencing challenging times and it incumbent on us fellow Christians to Embargoed until Wednesday, 25 December, 2013

continue to be our brothers and sisters’ keepers and be ready to lend a helping hand, join a cause in support of community advancement and within our homes, ensure our youth embrace the Christian values that Jesus died for.

As we remember the birth of Jesus, lets us strive to be more like him, love our neighbours, give of ourselves to one another, and seek to live in peace and harmony, and a love for this country that has given to all of us so much.

Over these past two years, as I’ve served as your Territorial Representative and as your Minister of Education and Culture, I remain humbled at the willingness of Virgin Islanders and residents to unite to solve common issues challenging our Territory. As we head into 2014, I pledge to continue to work even more enthusiastically to realise the vision that the people of the Virgin Islands voted for.

2013 was a year that challenged us in many ways. However, I remain prayerful that as our economy improves, 2014 will bring with it, the dividends of this Government’s investments in its people, education, health, infrastructure, and community building.Throughout out these Virgin Islands, I encourage residents to join together and as we recall the birth of Jesus Christ during this holiday season, may his life forever shine the light on a path towards unity, selflessness and love for one’s neighbor and country.

May the love of our Saviour reign in all of our hearts, forevermore.

    Merry Christmas Virgin Islands!
