BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Springfield Cemetery would soon be 'spruced up' with the addition of tall, luxuriant palm trees, thanks to the newly-established Liamuiga Funeral Home.
The funeral home only recently opened its doors to the twin-island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis and has already begun giving back to the community.
The new business made a recent donation to the Springfield Restoration Committee of 10 palm trees at the Tropical Plant Nursery at the CAP Southwell Industrial Site.
In a simple but significant ceremony, Funeral Director and Embalmer of the Liamuiga Funeral Home Tommy Wilburn handed over the palm trees to the Chairman of the Springfield Restoration Committee, Stanley Franks.
Speaking with SKNVibes, Wilburn said that the donation was made as a means of assisting the Committee with the beautification of the cemetery.
He also said that the trees would "keep the history and beauty" of the cemetery.
"Just because it is a place for the dead does not mean it cannot be a beautiful place. We just hope that the palm trees would assist with that beautification process, and when people go to visit their lost loved ones they would feel a little better knowing their loved ones are resting peacefully in a beautiful place," he added.
Wilburn explained that the donation was also done as means of giving back to the community as well as to mark the official opening of the Liamuiga Funeral Home.
