BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Frigate Bay Road was abuzz with activity this afternoon (Dec. 27) when two accidents occurred, the latter involving an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) vehicle which was dispatched to provide assistance to individual(s) involved in the first.
An eyewitness account of the first accident indicates that sometime after 3:00 p.m. motor lorry PA2073 was making a right turn to exit the Kim Collins Highway onto the Frigate Bay Road and motor bus TA139 was travelling eastward along the Frigate Bay Road when both vehicles collided.
The right side of the vehicles collided causing damage to both with TA139’s being more extensive.
SKNVibes understands that the driver of T139 had some difficulty exiting the vehicle after the incident because one of his legs was pinned down from the crash.
The EMS vehicle - PA1300 - and team were summoned to the scene and SKNVibes understands that while travelling along the Frigate Bay Road it collided with motor jeep PA2930.
The circumstances of that incident are still unclear; however, this publication understands that no injuries were recorded from that crash.
Ironically, the accident involving the EMS vehicle occurred just metres away from the scene of the first accident.
A second EMS vehicle was dispatched and when it arrived on the scene, the driver of TA139 was assisted in exiting his vehicle, placed on a gurney, loaded into the ambulance and transported to the Joseph N. France General Hospital for treatment.
It did not help that the incidents occurred around a time when individuals were rushing home from a long day’s work and the result was that traffic was backed up for several metres to the east and to the west of the site of the accidents.
Members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force were on hand to process both scenes and investigations into the matters are being made.
