BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - A wave of advancement has hit the mortuary business within the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis with the recent official opening of the Liamuiga Funeral Home and Crematory, the only one-stop-shop facility of its kind in the nation.
Located at Lime Kiln Development, the state-of-the-art funeral home offers a wide range of services which people seeking such facilities could take advantage of.
Services
Believe it or not, the services offered at the Liamuiga Funeral Home are so comprehensive that customers are required to do very little having contacted the home to take care of and bury their loved ones.
Office Manager Oretha Grant explained to SKNVibes the range of services that the “modern, distinctive and affordable facilities” offer.
A repast room, a crematory, an embalming facility, a morgue which could accommodate up to nine individuals, a hearse service, a flower shop, a chapel, a print shop, a limousine service, a conference room where customers can meet with the staff of the facility, a warm and inviting lounge area and a casket display room are all part of the Liamuiga Funeral Home experience.
“Liamuiga Funeral Home and Crematory sets the standard for exceptional customer service and encompasses a one-stop facility to accommodate all your detailed and personalised funeral arrangements. Our professional team stands ready to serve you at any hour, day or night, with the personal touch of the only certified mortician on the island. Liamuiga Funeral Home takes pride in serving you with compassion, honouring the memory of your loved ones”, Grant expressed.
The mortician is Tommy Willburn, who attained certification in 1988 but has been in the business since he was 14 years old. He has worked for 31 funeral homes and has embalmed more than 30 000 bodies.
Affordability
An initial look at the lavish facility would cause one to wonder about the cost of the services being offered there. But Grant assures that the services are more than affordable.
She explained that there are five packages: Basic, Economy, Bronze, Silver and Platinum. In addition, the packages can be customised to cater to the specific needs of the customer.
Soliciting the services
When asked what procedure a potential customer must follow to solicit the services of the Home, the Office Manager indicated that an initial phone call is all it takes; after which the Home would handle the bulk of the work.
“Once we are given permission by the relevant individual(s) to move the deceased, we would do so and take the individual to our morgue and all the family would have to do it meet with us and decide on what package they would need. After that is done, all the customer would have to do is provide us with the information we need and also the clothes they would want their relative to be buried in. Everything else, we take care of.”
Both the staff and the ambiance of the establishment are warm and inviting; attributes which would undoubtedly provide some ease and solace to the grieving individuals.
The funeral home is the brainchild of Dr. Duan Jones of Premier Dental and it is also owned by him.
SKNVibes understands that Dr. Jones conceived the idea after one of his friends had lost his life in a tragic accident and he was not satisfied with the services received in preparation for his burial. Therefore, he decided to provide a mortuary service for the people of the island.
Dedicated to affordability, excellent service and “serving families with compassion”, the Home’s staff is ready, willing and able to cater to the needs of all their prospective clients.
