BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE town of Basseterre will come alive today (Dec. 31) with the first street parade of the Carnival season, the Junior Carnival Parade.

This year, the theme for the Junior Carnival Parade is "Going Green" and five Zones will be representing different areas of green energy.

Zone One will be portraying Solar Energy, Zone Two Biofuel, Zone Three Wind Energy, Zone Four Geothermal Energy and Zone Five will display Tide Energy.

Children from each school will take to the streets alongside junior masquerades and clowns, all dancing to the sweet music of the Federation.

The Parade is scheduled to start from Wiggley Avenue at Dr. William Connor Primary School and will travel east along Cayon Street, south onto West Independence Square Street, left onto South Independence Square Street, left onto East Independence Square Street, right onto Cayon Street and continue onto Pond Road, right onto Sandown Road, right onto the Bay Road, north onto College Street, right onto Liverpool Row and left up Fort Street.

The participants, according to Carnival Committee Chairman Sylvester Anthony, would pause on the Bay Road and put on a mini-show on the western end of the Old Treasury Building.

After their display, they would then travel up Fort Street onto Victoria Road and culminate in Warner Park.

Anthony said that the Carnival Committee has sought to do things differently this year and would be giving the children a treat.

Upon ending the street parade, the children would be treated to bouncing castles and other forms of entertainment in Warner Park.

The parade is expected to begin at 2:00 p.m. and from 6:30 p.m. the bands will continue to play along the J'Ouvert route until 9:00 p.m.
