BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - OVER the years, many individuals have been calling on the relevant authorities to construct a weatherproof facility to host Carnival events, among other activities.

Recently, those calls have increased following the postponement of the Sugar Mas’ 42 International Night after heavy rainfall accounted for the disappointment of hundreds of patrons who have since been given a full refund.

In an interview with SKNVibes, Carnival Chairman Sylvester Anthony disclosed that for Sugar Mas’ 43 in 2014 the Committee’s main focus would be to establish a covered venue.

“The main focus for next year is for us to get our venue. I think if we are successful in getting a venue we will do things a little differently.

“My main focus will be getting a venue, a covered venue. If we have a venue dedicated to Sugar Mas’ only, then we don’t have to use any other venue.”

In recent weeks, a number of Sugar Mas’ events were marred by heavy rainfall. The Soca Monarch Semi-Finals, Island-wide Bar Crawl and Breakfast Fete were all delayed by a week and the weather also accounted for the failure of the much look forward to Sugar Mas’ Village.

Last week the long-awaited Sugar Mas’ 42 International Night ended prematurely with stormy conditions, but the Committee has promised to reschedule the concert and admission would be free.
