BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - WITH news of a confrontation between Unity Movement activist Clecton Phillip and Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas still circulating, the latter has chosen to neither confirm nor deny that he threatened to kick Phillip.

The alleged incident took place at Port Zante last evening (Jan. 3) while the Prime Minister was having light refreshments in one of the merchant’s stores and a crowd had gathered on the outside in protest repeatedly shouting “Douglas must go”.

Another version of the story suggests that the crowd proceeded to pound on the glass window and glass doors of the establishment and were yelling expletives.

SKNVibes understands that sometime during the incident, a confrontation between the Prime Minister and Phillip, and the allegation is that Prime Minister Douglas threatened to “kick off” Phillip.

The specifics of that part of the incident are not altogether clear and attempts to contact Phillip to get his side of the story have been futile up to this point as - according to SKNVibes’ understanding - he was engaged in meetings.

However, this media house spoke with Prime Minister Douglas and when asked if he threatened to kick Phillip, he responded with the following:

“Clecton Phillip was a part of the crowd as we walked away to my vehicle. He left the sanctity and the safety of his fellow colleagues, walked taunting me, putting his camera in my face...Clecton Phillip should have been dealt with, he should have been dealt with severely by police officers. And if the Leader of this country is not free to walk about in this country, it means then that we are descending to a level that I wish not to contemplate.”

When reminded that he failed to answer the question of whether or not he threatened to kick Phillip, the Prime Minister said he would not be answering that question.

“I will not answer any question of that type. In fact, as I said, Clecton Phillip should have been thrown feet and miles away from me if he was confronting me.”

This publication understands that Phillip was not - as the Prime Minister suggested - thrown feet or miles away from him although the Prime Minister’s claim is that he was being confronted by him.
