BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – MORE than 20 persons got the shock of their lives during New Year’s Day and Las’ Lap when they arrived at the areas where they had parked their vehicles only to be greeted by a ticket, while some had found their transportation missing.
While the New Year’s Day Parade was in progress, SKNVibes had observed an extremely large amount of vehicles parked along the parade route on South Independence Square Street with tickets stuck under their windshield wipers, which signified s traffic violation.
It was also observed that a few of those vehicles were not only fitted with a ticket but also impounded by the Traffic Department.
Over those two days police issued 26 tickets - 19 on New Year’s Day and seven during Las’ Lap – and towed away two vehicles.
One of the guilty parties noted that he was unaware of committing a violation “because there were no signs indicating that drivers were barred from parking on the road”.
The Traffic Department of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force had however warned motorists via the media that should they fail to comply with the rules and regulations implemented, specifically for the Sugar Mas’ 42 street activities, penalties would be imposed.
A motorist found in violation could pay up to $300 for his/her disobedience; $100 for the ticket and between $100 and $200 for the towing service (depending on the size of the vehicle).
