BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - ST. KITTS AND NEVIS’ international football player Atiba Harris has been traded to Major League Soccer’s (MLS) San Jose Earthquakes following a one-year stint with the Colorado Rapids.

According to a report by the San Jose Mercury News, the Earthquakes acquired the services of outside midfielder Atiba Harris in a trade that sent disgruntled Marvin Chavez to the Colorado Rapids.

The Earthquakes will be the sixth team in seven years for Harris, a six-foot-three international from St. Kitts and Nevis. Harris, 28, had five goals and one assist in 29 games for Colorado last year.

San Jose also received money in the trade that brings in Harris, who also can play the center forward position, and head coach Mark Watson has already revealed he might play both positions in San Jose.

"We know he can do both jobs very well. He may play both positions," Watson said.

Watson, who became the permanent coach after the season, said the latest acquisitions of Harris along with France’s Jean-Baptiste Pierazzi should make his team more versatile on offence.

"Both players give us some real good options in terms of how we play. They will continue with what we're trying to achieve," coach Watson said.

Harris became the first player from St. Kitts and Nevis to sign for MLS when he joined Real Salt Lake for the 2006 season.

Since joining the MLS, Harris has scored 22 goals and added 20 assists in 167 matches with five different clubs.
