BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - NEVISIAN batsman Kieran Powell, who has been away from Nevis since September last year, is yearning to return to the island of his birth.

Powell is currently in New Zealand, but before that he was in India with the West Indies A team and had participated in a week's camp in Miami then back to India with the West Indies.

In an interview with Otago Daily Times, Powell spoke of his desire to return to his to homeland to find out how much his father has been driving his car, help his niece with her homework and chill out ont the beach - "just get away from cricket".

"The call of home is obviously a daunting prospect. In a sense it's not as difficult for me as some of the guys who are married or have kids, but it takes its toll on you," Powell said.

Powell still has some unfinished business in the New Zealand as his team will fancy their chances at Eden Park tonight (Jan. 10) in the first of two T20s to end the tour.

It will be Powell's first T20 and he hopes it helps his aspirations of being in the World T20 squad as West Indies will be defending their title in Bangladesh later this year.

"There's an opportunity for lots of guys to push their claims, so it's important we take these games very seriously," he said.

If the West Indies win both games they will jump three places to be ranked Number Two.
