BASETERRE, St. Kitts - A rally organised by the Unity Movement on this evening (Jan. 10) ended prematurely following an islandwide power outage.

The event, which was to feature calypsonians including Big Lice and I-Soursop as well as the Small Axe Band, came to a sudden halt following a performance by Lady Diva.

On completion of her rendition, Unity candidate for Constituency One, Ian 'Patches' Liburd took to the platform, and as soon as began speaking darkness engulfed Bank Street where hundreds had gathered for the Rally.

Despite the darkness, the Unity supporters remained firm and started to sing song such as 'We shall Overcome' and 'My God is Awesome' while also chanting “Douglas mus’ go”.

With many being unaware as to the reason behind the power outage and some claiming it could be sabotage, Unity Leader Dr. Timothy Harris spoke to the gathering with a public address system mounted on top of a car.

Harris thanked the supporters who participated in a march that preceded the rally and declared that power of Unity was on display.

"Today we showed them the strength and the power of Unity. Give us this chance to serve you and we will see. It was an excellent afternoon they felt the strength, they felt the vibe of unity."

Harris also commented on the power outage.

"I wouldn't put it pass the dictator after seeing the dictator shut down the country."

Harris urged the supporters to keep their ears open for an announcement regarding rescheduling of the event.
