BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - WITH work at the Warner Park Facility nearing completion, officials in St. Kitts and Nevis have little over a month to give the new lighting facility at the venue its first test with a day night first class encounter.

In an interview with SKNVibes Sports, Senior Sports Officer in the Ministry of Sports Vernon Springer disclosed that in early March the new lights would get their inaugural workout during the West Indies Cricket Board’s Regional 4-Day Championship.

“There has to be some confidence in the Ministry of Sports and the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis. From March 7 to 10 there is a scheduled Leeward Islands vs. Jamaica.

“It is going to be a four-day night encounter here and that is going to be a test for Warner Park and for St. Kitts. Before that, a game will be played from February 28 to March 3. That will be a day game between CCC and Leeward Islands right here.”

He however stated that because of the upcoming events, a lot of work would have to be completed throughout the facility before that time.

“During this period lots of activities will be completed. It is an exciting time right now we are positioning ourselves to execute.

“After the Carnival, as you can see, some work is needed on the outfield and Myron Walters has been contracted to deal with that. We also have a new head groundsman to be stationed in Warner Park. He is Stedroy Douglas of Sandy Point.
“We have one month to transform here and bring it back up to where it was.”
