Team UNITY helps “Annie David” Celebrate 101 years

By: Team UNITY, Press Release

Basseterre, St.Kitts (Team UNITY Communications - Jan 20th 2014) Leader of Team UNITY Dr. Hon. Timothy Harris and Deputy Leader Hon. Shawn K. Richards joined Parliamentary Representative for Constituency #8 Hon. Eugene Hamilton in helping to celebrate the 101st birthday of  Ina Theodosia Bass  popularly known as “Annie David”.

“Annie David” is a resident of Upper Monkey Hill, St. Peters, who, through the grace of God is celebrating 101 years on earth.

She was born on January 20, 1913 to George David and Floretta Bass.

As has become the norm over the last few years, her Parliamentary representative and friend Hon. Eugene Hamilton along with his Team UNITY colleagues paid a visit to “Annie” and presented her with a token of appreciation for her long and outstanding contribution to the Monkey Hill Community and by extension the entire Constituency and the Country .

“We honor her for the countless contributions she has made not only in this community and constituency but  in St. Kitts-Nevis and abroad.  One can only imagine the many experiences we can learn from her time on this earth.   She is a living direct link to our ancestors and she gives us the motivation to make St. Kitts and Nevis the home that so many like her worked so hard for.  I have and will continue to try  to honor her in how I live not by just my words. For now I will just say thank you and thank God for you,” said Parliamentary Representative Hon. Eugene Hamilton

“Annie David” was among hundreds who migrated to England in the early 1950’s from St.Kitts-Nevis and the Caribbean. However unlike her peers who migrated around that time she returned to St.Kitts shortly after where she became a very well known and beloved figure in the Public Market. Up until now on her 101st birthday Ms Bass remains a regular at the Basseterre Public Market selling her provisions as she has done since 1962.

“Amazingly at 101 years old “Annie David” still plies her trade at the Basseterre Public Market as a Vendor. I have known “Annie” since my time as Minister of Agriculture and even then I was quite amazed by her strength and health considering her age.  In fact while enjoying pleasantries and some of her wise stories she hinted that we were keeping her back from heading to the market. Her life story of hard work and resilience is one that should be told and emulated and one that Team UNITY will learn from.  I pray God's continuing blessing on her life. She is a remarkable person,” said Team UNITY Leader Dr. Timothy Harris

According to her diet consists of “ground provisions”.

The 101 year old suffers from no non-communicable disease and has outlived her only child and six siblings.
