BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – MINISTER of Health and Chair of the governing St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party, Hon. Marcella Liburd has criticised Dr. Timothy Harris on a demeaning statement he made about Chairman of the National Carnival Committee, Sylvester Anthony.

The Minister’s criticism came in the wake of Dr. Harris insinuating that the St. Lucian-born lawyer is not a Kittitian and that he “knock water and come here”.

Dr. Harris, who is the Leader of both the People’s Labour Party and the tri-party coalition, Team Unity, made the comment on Friday (Jan. 17) during a Unity Team’s Political Rally on Bank Street.

Team Unity had blamed the National Carnival Committee for the police’s withdrawal of its permission to hold a meeting on Bank Street in order to facilitate a Carnival Street Jam on Friday, January 3, 2014.

“Sylvester Anthony who knock water and come here…Sylvester Anthony, in de rum shop in Newton Ground said all manner of things about Douglas. That Douglas was bad and Douglas was no good, and de country was mash up,” Harris told the large gathering on Bank Street.

He also stressed that some people have a price and Prime Minister Douglas knows how to get at them.

“But some people…some people have their price and Douglas knows how to go after those who have a price. Sylvester Anthony suddenly in everything, except Thanksgiving. Every case in de court, ‘ou hear he mout’. Boy I duh like when he ah tark in de court because…dey done lose.”

In response, Minister Liburd, while being interviewed on Freedom FM, said, “Recently I understand that one comment off of a platform was that Sylvester Anthony bang water and come here. Sylvester is from the OECS. We have our OECS Agreement, free movement and so on, but yet that’s an issue and this is supposed to be unity…and so we are not fooled by words.”

In an appeal to all those who are resident in St. Kitts and Nevis and whom her political party warmly welcomed, the Minister said, “When the time comes you must make a choice as to who you think operates in your best interest and in the interest of the country”.

She stressed that St. Kitts and Nevis is a diverse, all inclusive country.
