BASSETERRE St. KIitts, January 23rd, 2014 -- On behalf of the Unity Movement of St. Kitts and Nevis and on my own behalf, I extend congratulations to Premier the Hon. Vance Amory and his hard-working team on the first anniversary of their re-election to office.
Tuesday, 22nd January 2013 marked an important day in the annals of politics in this country when the people of Nevis voted to maintain and strengthen democracy and the rule of law, by giving the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) a decisive victory at the polls.
One year ago, Nevisians voted for CHANGE and with his two other parliamentary representatives and Senior Ministers, Deputy Premier the Hon. Mark Brantley and the Hon. Alexis Jeffers, Premier Amory and his new CCM administration signaled that it would not be business as usual.
The new administration demonstrated that it was serious about its people oriented agenda and committed to putting the people of Nevis first by announcing an immediate 10% salary cut for all Ministers. CCM’s demonstration of sensitivity to the plight of the people and their commitment to social development and CHANGE for better was again proven in a tangible way under the “Free Utilities For Seniors” initiative.
Despite the many obstacles put in their way, most recently the fire that destroyed the heart of the Nevis Island Administration’s financial operations, Premier Amory and his team continue to show the kind of focused and dedicated leadership that the people of Nevis want and deserve.
In these difficult times, positive, sure-handed leadership is needed now more than ever to turn around the economic fortunes of Nevis and its people. CCM’s balanced approach to growth, focusing on stimulating the economy in critical sectors, through jobs-oriented initiatives in energy and tourism, whilst following a responsible, disciplined fiscal management path and at the same time strengthening the social safety net, must be highly commended.
People matter more and the people of Nevis are clearly in the good hands of the CCM administration. I extend best wishes to the CCM administration and to the people of Nevis for another successful year and beyond.
