“Bringing Kittitian Flavors to the St Kitts Marriott Resort”

    (February 2007)  -  The St Kitts Marriott has been able to excel in the arts of providing exemplary cuisine through the chefs that have made the resort their home. The addition of Kittitian Chefs with the combination of their local flavors has further enhanced the experience, and crated a journey of the palate when dining at the St Kitts Marriott Resort.

     

    Marlon Tobias has become a force to be reckoned with in the field of culinary arts in St Kitts. His quiet and unassuming demeanor is one of the reasons that he is a trusted and sort after chef at the St Kitts Marriott Resort. With over 20 years experience Marlon is one of the success stories for the local “Youth Skills Training Program’.

     

    He has sought to give back to the community that has nourished him by participating in basic culinary skills training in 2008 at the CFB College. His experience in the St Kitts Marriott began in 2003, since then he has made four moves which have brought him closer and closer to his goal as an Executive Chef. Currently he is the Specialty Restaurant Chef at the La Cucina Restaurant.

     

    “I love and have a lot of respect for this career. I strive to ensure that my contributions assist in further enhancing the Kittitian Experience for those that come to our shores”, said Marlon Tobias

     

    Garfield Michael has over 15 years experience in Culinary Arts. His experience began as a teenager when this young dishwasher was noticed by a chef who placed him on a grill. He gathered his experience through numerous hotels and restaurants around St

     

    Kitts before finally stopping at the St Kitts Marriott Resort. It was here that his career soared and he has not given a backward glance since. Garfield started as a cook, moved on to a lead cook and is now the Supervisor in the Blu Restaurant kitchen. With all this going on, he still uses his spare time Garfield wisely and has become quite an accomplished POET.

     

    “When you do things that you love, there will be challenges, however always remember you do it because you love it”, said Garfield Michael.

     

    Terrance Dasent’s introduction to the kitchen came by way of his grandmother who allowed him to assist by way of being her taster for all the tasty treats she created in the family kitchen. She wanted was exceptionally skilled in making traditional local treats like sweet potato cakes and puddings. Watching his grandmother’s creations entranced young Terrance who vowed one day to be just as skilled in the kitchen.

     

    Upon completion of his formal education he gained entry as a steward in a local hotel, and under the direction of some of his mentors like Elvis Woodley & Arthur Cranston. Under their direction he honed his craft, until his entry into the Marriott Family in 2003. Since this he has excelled and moved 4 positions to become the Assistant Sous Chef in the Royal Grille Restaurant.

     

    “Always maintain your focus and have goals. As long as you can dream it, you can achieve it, and always put God first” said Terrance Dasent.

     

    William Moore was introduced to the culinary arts was by way of his mother who is a Chef. As a child he always admired the way she would dress each day in white with her shiny knives and tall white hat. His grandmother however, was the one responsible for introducing him to the art of Caribbean cuisine.

     

    It was at her hands that his interest in cooking was nurtured and developed, she taught him which herbs would go best with what dish, how to take flour, water and butter and turn it into something extra- ordinary.

     

    His professional career began 13 years ago in restaurants. Eventually he was employed by hotels before joining the Marriott family 5 years ago. Since then he has not looked back. William is currently Chef de Partie in the Main Kitchen.

     

    “Cooking is my way of self expression” William says, “It is a passion, it is a way of life through which all things are possible”.
