    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – SEVEN individuals, including two juveniles, recently appeared in the Federation’s courts and were punished for the offences under which they were charged.

     

    An Old Road man, who appeared before the District “B” Magistrate Court in Sandy Point, was sentenced to serve jail time after he was convicted of a “wounding” offence.

     

    Recaldo Pemberton was convicted of the November 2008 wounding of fellow Old Road resident Mackenzie Samuel and was sentenced to six months imprisonment at Her Majesty’s Prison.

     

    The mother of two 15-year-olds has to dish out almost $1 000 to pay for her children’s folly.

     

    The Sandy Point youngsters appeared before the court having been accused of receiving stolen goods. Upon conviction they were placed on a one-year bond, with conditions of keeping the peace and being of good behaviour. Additionally, they are to observe a 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. curfew for a six-month period and are to attend either AVEC or another educational institution.

     

    Their mother, however, could face imprisonment should she fail to pay the $950 compensatory sum ordered by the court. She has four months to pay the sum to the virtual complainant or serve two weeks at Her Majesty’s Prison. 

     

    Carlton Connor appeared before the court on two charges of “battery on police” and one of “using obscene language”. He was convicted and fined $2 000 on the first two charges, which is to be paid within four months or in default, serve three months imprisonment. The Dieppe Bay resident was placed on a six-month bond, during which time he is to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. He was issued a “severe warning” for the obscene language offence.

     

    A $2 000 fine was imposed on Joseph Belgrove of Fountain Village after he was convicted of “possession of marijuana”. The offence was committed on January 29, 2009. Should he fail to pay the sum within the prescribed six-month period, he would be sentenced to prison for six months.

     

    Old Manor Estate resident Jasmine Joshua was convicted of “marijuana cultivation” at the District “C” Magistrate Court and was ordered to pay $800 within three months. If she fails to pay the sum, a one-month custodial sentence would be imposed. Joshua was also convicted of “possession of marijuana” but was “severely cautioned”.

     

    After conviction of “possession of marijuana”, Danny Galloway of Westbury was fined $800 which is to be paid within two months or face a two-month prison sentence if in default.

     

    ARRESTS

     

    Seven individuals were arrested and charged with various offences and are expected to appear before the court shortly.

     

    Pond Hill resident Kishaun Merchant was arrested and charged with January 10, 2009 offences of “illegal possession of a firearm”, to wit a 45 caliber pistol, “illegal possession of ammunition” and “shooting with intent”

     

    Police informed that circumstances which led to his arrest are, on that day, “at about 2:30 a.m. Merchant shot at the police who were pursing him and others, after they (the police) became suspicious of them”.

     

    Three men from Saddlers Village, Andre Patrick, Keshaun Carty and Anthony Adams, were arrested and charged with a January 23, 2009 offence of “unlawful carnal knowledge”.

     

    Dieppe Bay resident Kareem Douglas was arrested and charged for “making use of threatening language”. The offence was allegedly committed on January 31, 2009.

     

    “Forgery” and “Obtaining credit by fraud” were the offences preferred against Carlton Tyson of Jessup’s Village.

     

    Chase Hamilton of Hanley’s Road was arrested and charged for a “wounding” offence.
