BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Tyrell Williams Primary School and Bronte Welsh Primary School will be competing for this year’s National Bank Department of Sports Primary School Football Competition.

In the Semi-Finals played on Tuesday (Jan. 28), defending champions Tyrell Williams trounced Joshua Obidiah Williams Primary 5-0 in a one-sided encounter.

Tyrell Williams controlled the game from start to finish and never looked to take their feet off the accelerator to show why they dominated the tournament over the last two years.

With about a dozen screaming cheerleaders on their side, Tyrell Williams thumped five goals into Joshua Obidiah Williams’ net to easily earn their spot in the Finals.

However, it was the other Semi-Final match that caught most of the small crowd’s attention, as it featured underdogs Bronte Welsh Primary School going up against favourites Tucker Clarke Primary School.

Tucker Clarke had the better of the early exchanges while Bronte Welsh paced the game very well but suffered a setback when their opponent opened the scoring.

Despite going down a goal, Bronte Welsh however continued in the same vein and seemed unperturbed by the scoreline going into half time.

The second half however provided a different story with Bronte Welsh taking command of the game with an equaliser by Kylon Liburd before moving ahead through another goal off the boot of Nishandy Hughes.

By then the team were feeding from the support provided from some parents as well as the Principal of the school, Anthony Wiltshire.

When the third goal was scored by Allyne Williams it was already a foregone conclusion that there was no way the school from Newtown would have advanced to the Finals.

MVP for the game was Savio Williams from Bronte Welsh Primary School, whose performance on the field was outstanding.

The Finals is scheduled for today (Jan. 30) at Warner Park on Thursday (Jan. 30).
