The St. Kitts National Youth Parliament Association thanks the general public for their generosity in past projects.

Basseterre, St. Kitts- As the New Year unfolds, the St. Kitts National Youth Parliament Association has seen significant progression for the month of January, 2009. The year began with the intention to accomplish two major objectives in the organization. Firstly, the Toy Drive, a project launched in December which aims to collect toys for the children of Haiti, was greeted with much welcome by the general public. Persons from all across the country guaranteed their support in ensuring that this project is successful.

The students and teachers of Maurice Hillier Primary also demonstrated their interest in this endeavour by donating new and used toys to this venture. Dolls and trucks and other pieces of toys were given to the St. Kitts National Youth Parliament Association on January 16. The excitement soared while the children gathered around the enormous pile of toys to photograph their smiles.

Another major project was also brought to a successful end in January 2009. Wednesday, 28th January, 2009 marked the handing over of the books from SKNYPA’s Book Drive Project to the Public Library.

In her address to the head librarian at the library, Ms Caroline Henry, the project’s chairperson stated that, “the purpose of this book drive was to provide the people of St. Kitts with additional reading material by collecting the scattered books from all over the island and bringing them to one central location so that they would be available to all.” Ms. Henry thanked SKNYPA and assured the Association that the books will definitely be put into good use.

The St. Kitts National Youth Parliament Association wishes to thank the general public for generously donating their toys and books to these projects. In connection with the book drive, SKNYPA would like to thank Value Mart, Rams Birdrock, C&C Superfoods, Fraites & Sons in Molineaux and the Cayon High School for accommodating its boxes to make them more accessible to the general public. Of course, the Association thanks its members who have shown their commitment to both projects from the moment of inception to the very end.

The St. Kitts National Youth Parliament Association is a non-profit, non-governmental youth organization launched in 2001 with a mandate to be an enabling agent for the open and honest discussion of national issues and a driving force for positive youth involvement in the political and legislative processes in St. Kitts and Nevis. The motto of the Association is “Equality and Justice in Nation Building.”
