SKNAAA looking to build on last four years of succes

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE newly-elected Executive of the St. Kitts-Nevis Amateur Athletic Association (SKNAAA) is aiming to build on the successes in track and field it has seen during the last four years.

     

    On January, 11, the member clubs of the SKNAAA elected a new Executive that will govern the sport for the next four years.

     

    In an interview with SKNVibes Sports, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the SKNAAA, Evris Huggins outlined some of the plans that the new Executive is pursuing for its tenure.

     

    “The new Executive is already excited and putting plans in place for the 2014 athletic season and we are laying the ground work for our plans for the next four years.

     

    “The Executive is new right now and we are still bouncing ideas. However our priority is to keep the development meets sustained and we are putting our best foot forward to ensure that the general public of St. Kitts and Nevis get a very good showing for this scholastic championships.”

     

    He added that they will be focused on ensuring that the proper infrastructure is put in place in order to assist athletes and coaches in achieving their goals.

     

    “We also want to make sure that our athletes who are the very most important component of the sport, and the coaches, have the appropriate climate that they can attain what ever goal they wish to attain.”

     

    Huggins also stated that the new Executive will have a tough act to follow after the success of the last four years, but will be seeking to build on those accomplishments.

     

    “We can only expect great things. We have some very big shoes to fill because the last four years for the SKNAAA was rather successful and despite the challenges we had to weather, there were indeed a number of highlights.

     

    In highlighting some of the triumphs, Huggins explained that “in the year 2013 alone we had 13 national junior and senior records and I think there had to be some sought of foundation for stuff like that to happen”.

     

    “The last quadrennial, we were able to benefit from the new facility at the Silver Jubilee Stadium (and) were able to see the development of the coaches in the Federation. We were also able to put together a relay team which was able to go out and medal at the World Championships. 

     

    “I think it was a good balance with the technical aspect of the sport, the administrative aspect. And of course from a performance point of view, a number of targets were met and a number of our expectation were exceeded and I think that with the new Executive in place we have some very big shoes to fill.”

     

    Huggins also gave an overview of the elections.

     

    “Well all nine who are members of the SKNAAA were present at the elections of the SKNAAA on Saturday Jan 11. The delegates excersised their franchise and elected an Executive for the next four years to govern and take the sport forward.”

     

    He listed the new Executive as Glen Jeffers, returning President; Val Henry, Vice-President; Francil Morris; General Secretary; Burchell Crooke, Assistant Secretary-Treasurer, Valarie Richardson-Mason; Evris Huggins, Public Relations Officer; Corneil Williams, Games Secretary; Grace Maritza Diaz, Women’s Representative; Timothy Morton, Coaches Representative; Craig McDowell, Technical Official Representative and Delwayne Delaney, Athletes Representatives.
