BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THREE of the nation’ s most prominent former business stalwarts received regional recognition by the Caribbean Association of Industries and Commerce (CAIC) during a Special Awards Ceremony held recently in St. Kitts.
The ceremony, which took place as a part of the 93rd CAIC Directors’ Meeting, acknowledged Former Owner OD Brisbane & Sons Trading Ltd, Charles Brisbane; Former Chairman SL Horsford & Co. Ltd., William Kelsick; and Former Chairman TDC Group of Companies, Michael King for their sterling contributions to the development of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the private sector in St. Kitts.
President of the St. Kitts-Nevis Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Mark Wilkin told SKNVibes.com that the recognition was well received and recognized “very important people who have sacrificed a great deal for the development of this sector”.
“This marks the first time CAIC has recognized anyone from the local Chamber and so we are very pleased. These three individuals have made great strides over the years in establishing the necessary framework in order for our Chamber to function effectively. We really cannot repay them for the work done in advancing CAIC and so their recognition was indeed a timely one.
“Apart from working in their respective businesses, they were all very active in the establishment of the Chamber Secretariat. When the Chamber first started, it was a series of meetings for private sector representatives, but through their invaluable contributions, we are now based in a common secretariat through which we strengthen our regional and international relations. It is fitting that they were honoured while they could still be here with us as they were active in the development and progress of the Chamber.”
Wilkin informed that he is privileged to have worked with Brisbane, Kelsick and King adding that he is also honoured to be the current President and witness the awards. He stated that the work of the former Presidents and directors has afforded him a firm foundation for his leadership.
Brisbane served as the first local CAIC Director from 1977 to 1978 and from 1990 to 1991 while King served as Director in 1984. Kelsick made his contribution to the CAIC while he served as President of the organization from 1883 to 1985.
