St.Criox: USVI - Police on St. Croix are investigating a series of shots that were fired in the Estate Mon Bijou area of St. Croix Wednesday, February 11. No one was injured from the gunfire.

According to Chief Oakland Benta, who responded to the scene along with officers from several commands, Detectives and Forensic Investigators, the call of shots fired was recorded at 911 shortly after 1 p.m. While officers were responding to the scene, other calls came into 911 of the increase of gunfire.

Police canvassed the area and interviewed possible witnesses. During the gunfire one individual was injured when he fell, striking his head while fleeing. He was treated at the Juan F. Luis Hospital and released.

The incident may have resulted from an altercation between two or more individuals who resorted to gun violence to resolve their problems, police said.

Chief Benta said police will remain in the area for several hours gathering information on the suspects. He anticipates that the person or persons who were involved in this shooting will be apprehended. A shotgun and ammunition was confiscated by police. The investigation is continuing.

The Chief also thanked the many persons who freely gave information to the police but cautioned the community to call in their information anonymously.
