Basseterre, St. Kitts (August 17, 2005): The St. Kitts and Nevis National Council of Women is launching its newly re-established organization on September 24.
Women and interested individuals are expected to attend the celebration set for 5:30 p.m. at the University of the West Indies conference room.
Ms Hazel Brown from the Network of NGOs in Trinidad and Tobago will be the keynote speaker.
The National Council of Women brings together women from all walks of life, throughout St. Kitts and Nevis to advance womens issues and to voice the perspective of women in the Federation.The goal is to create a stronger, more effective society where all citizens have the opportunity to develop their full potential.
Director of Gender Affairs Ingrid Charles Gumbs says the National Council of Women will work closely with womens organizations, elected officials, the department of gender affairs and other government ministries.
Officers of the Interim Committee of the National Council of Women are Ms. Eugenie Williams, chairperson; Mrs. Sharon Drew, vice-chair; Mrs. Brenda Skeete, secretary; and Mrs Patricia David-Paul, public relations officer. Mrs Kathleen Thomas acts in an advisory capacity to the organization.
