By: Erasmus Williams, CUOPM

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, FEBRUARY 14TH 2009 (CUOPM) - More training for the Federation’s law enforcement officers to improve the quality of service to nationals and fight crime.

Middle managers and supervisors in the security and law enforcement agencies are to begin a one-week management and leadership training programme, an initiative of the Ministry of National Security under the Canadian Law Enforcement Training Assistance Project.

“The overall goal of this initiative is to build internal capacity within the Security Forces in order to provide improved quality of service to the citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis and to be more efficient in dealing with all elements of criminal activity in the Federation,” said Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, Mrs. Astona Browne.

Officers of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force, the St. Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Services and Her Majesty’s Prison are expected to attend the training programme at the NEMA Training Room from February 16th to 20th.

The training team will be led by Mr. Paul Jolicoeur of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Force (RCMP).

This course will be the third training course for the year. To date over 160 police officers of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force have been trained with the assistance of the Government of Canada.
