BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - KITTITIAN sprint legend Kim Collins has once again shown no sign of slowing down after he blazed a new National Record and personal best time of 6.49 seconds in the 60m at a meet in Praga, Poland today (Feb. 25).
Collins, got off to an uncharacteristic slow start and had to claw his way back into the race.
The 2003 100m World Champion finished about three-hundreds of a second ahead Dwain Chambers who finished second while Vaclav Zich, had to settle for third with 6.87 sec.
Following the race Collins highlighted a combination of a fast track and the arena’s atmosphere for the performance.
“The track is so fast here which in combination with the atmosphere and my good shape helped me to run fast. Even thought I am almost 38, I still think I am able to improve. It is not about age but about hard training. I still have energy to train, I try to stay positive, work hard and it brings great results.”
Collins’ winning time is also the fourth fastest for 2014 thus far.
Following the race, Collins took to his Facebook page to thank those who offered him their support.
“Thanks to one and all for all the love and support over the years. The prayers and well wishes. Tonight, 6.49NR. PB. MR Prage Indoor 2014”
