Committee established to mediate Kim Collins/SKNAAA issue

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - GOVERNING body for the sport of track and field in Federation, the St. Kitts -Nevis Amateur Athletic Association (SKNAAA) has disclosed that they a seeking a resolution with veteran athlete Kim Collins.

     

    In a recent interview on ZIZ Radio, Public Relations Officer of the SKNAAA Evris Huggins announced that a special committee had been established to deal with the Collins matter. 

     

    “The discussions have already began at SKNAAA level. I am happy to announce we have decided to put together a committee who would be able to address the existing relationships with our athletes.

     

    “The focal point is the issue surrounding Mr. Collins. That group would be charged to contact the athlete and try fix whatever relationships that is.”

     

    He added that Collins has already written to the SKNAAA and has voiced his intentions to the Association.

     

    “Kim Collins wrote to the executive and congratulated the new executive and expressed his intent to participate in future competitions and our executive discussed it and that is just step one in the right direction. We are definitely looking and hoping for a resolution in our relationship with Kim Collins as soon as possible.”

     

    In an interview with the Voice of Sport, former world champion Collins claimed “positive discussions with the powers that be has left him feeling hopeful about the future.” 

     

    He said: “We just need to keep talking and agree on how we are going to move forward. Where the World Indoor Championships are concerned I don’t think I am ready to agree with the terms, not because it's too soon, but because we have to communicate exactly what they are, what we agree on and what we don’t.” 

     

    Collins also expressed confidence in representing the Federation at the Commonwealth Games.

     

    "There is a lot going on in my country so I am really looking forward to getting my situation resolved so we can move on, clear the air and understand that we want a common goal where the sport is concerned.

     

    "It shouldn’t be that difficult."
