BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AFTER four months of non-stop testimonies from witnesses and evidence being revealed, the almost-completed Vybz Kartel murder trial moved a step closer to the end on Wednesday (Feb. 26) as one of the defence attorneys made her final address to the jurors.
According to the Jamaican Observer, attorney Tamika Harris wrapped up her address to jurors, stating that "You cannot ignore what is rotten in this case. You cannot just wuk wid it. You cannot put on blinkers..."
The observer reported that the attorney - in her previous address to the jury - submitted that “Harris told the jurors that the police made up witness statements all the time and highlighted what she said were 20 critical questions that she believed the prosecution needed to address but failed to do so”.
The final arguments now pave the way for Justice Lennox Campbell to summarise all of the evidence for the jurors and inform them as to how the law should be applied in arriving at a decision.
This process is expected to start next week Thursday (Mar. 6) when the matter resumes in the Home Circuit Court.
Vybz Kartel - better known as Adijah Palmer - Shawn Campbell, popularly known as Shawn Storm; André St John; Shane Williams; and Kahira Jones, have been on trial since November 18 2013 for the alleged murder of Clive 'Lizard' Williams on August 16, 2011.
He was allegedly killed at a house in Havendale, St Andrew, over the disappearance of two illegal guns.
