Leewards defeat CCC

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - LEEWARD ISLANDS have defeated the Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) team at Warner Park after dismissing them in their second innings before lunch on the final day (Mar. 4).

     

    Starting the day on 110-4 in pursuit of 262 for victory, CCC lost two wickets in the first thirty minutes of the day’s play with Hayden Walsh Jr removing Steven Jacobs for 22. 

    Walsh struck again to remove Kavem Hodge as CCC struggled to 122-4.

    Chadwick Walton however continued his counter-attacking display as he tried to place pressure on the Leeward Island’s bowlers.

    When Walton was caught behind off Kelbert Walters, the Leeward Islands knew a victory was inevitable with the CCC’s144-7

    The final three wickets fell to Walsh and Anthony Martin who bowled out CCC for 189, losing by 72 runs.

    Walsh finish the innings with 4 wickets for 81 runs and was supported by Gavin Tonge who grabbed three wickets for 44 runs.

    Jahmar Hamilton was named Man of the Match for his 119 runs in the second innings, to set the victory for the home team.

    Leeward Islands started Day Three on 135-5 and a lead of 97. Tonito Willet and Jahmar Hamilton showed patience, maturity and punished the bad ball as they increased the Leeward Island’s lead in close to 200 in the morning session.

    In the first over after the lunch break, Willet fell to the bowling of Steven Jacobs for 41 bringing an end to a 125-run stand between him and Hamilton. 

    Hamilton continued his brilliant display of batting and eventually reached his second first class century and celebrated his milestone with a unique dance move to the delight of his teammates and the spectators who both applauded him for his achievement.
