Collins not selected for World Indoors

By: Loshaun Dixon, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - ST. KITTS AND NEVIS will be represented by two athletes at this weekend’s IAAF World Indoor Championships with the omission of veteran Kim Collins the main talking point.

Jason Rogers and Brijesh Lawrence have been the two selected to participate at the meet that will take place in Poland.

Both athletes are expected to compete in the 60 metres.

Rogers has the tenth best time in the world so far with a time of 6.52 seconds while Lawrence’s personal best time for 2014 is 6.62.

The major talking point however was the omission of Kim Collins who stated that he was in discussion with the St. Kitts-Nevis Amatuer Athletic Association (SKNAAA).

In a recent interview with the Voice Sports, Collins admitted that the World Indoor Championships might be too close for him to compete but was confident of participating at the Commonwealth Games in Glascow in August.

“We just need to keep talking and agree on how we are going to move forward. Where the World Indoor Championships are concerned I don’t think I am ready to agree with the terms, not because it's too soon, but because we have to communicate exactly what they are, what we agree on and what we don’t.”
