Gold triumph at Cayon High Sports

By: Loshaun Dixon, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - GOLD HOUSE athletes at the Cayon High School have emerged triumphant as they were adjudged the 2014 champions of the school’s Sports Day which was held on Thursday (Mar. 6).

In front of hundreds who turned out at the St. Mary's Park, the athletes turned in some impressive performances.

A March Past got the afternoon's activities underway where the athletes of all four houses were on display.

A battle ensued between Dejour Richards, Wayne Mathew and Kevaugn Isaac in the sprint events, which saw Isaac running away with the 200 meters win but Richards came back to win the 400m event.

Mathew however had to sit out the rest of the afternoon following the 200 meters race due to an injury.

Isaac went on to outmatch his other competitors in the 100 meters and was declared the fastest student at the Cayon High School.

On the distaff side, Kasey DeCosta dominated the female sprint category winning all her events.

Another outstanding performance at the Cayon High School was Craig Connor who won the 200m 400m and 100m in the Class Three Boys category.

One area of concern was the number of athletes who felt victim to injury during the event.

Also at the event a violent spat broke out among members of two gangs and no on-duty police officers were present on the ground to help the situation.

The matter was eventually resolved thanks to off-duty Police Officer and an off-duty Defence Force officer.

SKNVibes understands that at least one individual had been taken into police custody for their involvement in the issue.

One spectator was baffled as to why no police was present as the community had been ‘hotspot’ for crime in recent months.

Gold House athletes however, went home the happiest bunch after victory on the day.

Cayon High School are seen as having an outside chance of being successful at the TDC interschool Championships to be staged in two-weeks time.
