Rogers and Lawrence eliminated at World Indoors semifinals

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - KITTITIAN sprint sensations Jason Rogers and Brijesh Lawrence failed today (Mar. 9) to qualify for the finals of the Men’s 60 metres following fourth place and sixth place finishes respectively in the World Indoor Championship semifinals.

     

    In his opening round on Friday (Mar. 7), Rogers arrived at the finish ahead of the rest, clocking a time of 6.59 seconds while, Lawrence captured fourth position with a time of 6.63 seconds to advance to the Semi-finals.

     

    In the Semi,s Rogers placed fourth in a tight race that saw the entire top four clocking the same time. After the photo finish Jason was adjudged fourth place while Brijesh was sixth in his heat.

     

    Public Relations Officer of the St. Kitts Nevis Amateur Athletics Association Evris Huggins expressed elation at both athletes’ performances but stated they were hopeful of a final berth for the pair.

     

    “We were definitely elated about the performances. We were very hopeful for both guys to go through to the finals in particular Jason Rogers who currently boasts the tenth fastest time in the world.

     

    “When you look at the races they were very competitive. Jason placed fourth in his Semi-final and four persons actually ran 6.62 including Jason.”

     

    He also spoke of the potential of both athletes.

     

    “Both Jason and Brijesh are under the age of 25 they are promising young athletes and we are hoping both gentlemen stay fit and stay healthy and would deliver come nationals and hopefully be selected for team St. Kitts and Nevis at the Commonwealth Games and CAC games.”

     

    Briton Richard Kilty shocked the favourites to win the tightest ever 60 meters sprint final at the World Indoor Athletics Championships on Saturday.
