BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IN an effort to better equip farmers in the Federation to ply their trade, the TDC Group of Companies would we undertaking a promotion which is also aimed at giving back to farmers and training them in the necessities of farming.

In a telephone interview, TDC’s Marketing Assistant Dominic Matthew told SKNVibes Business, that the Group has dubbed the month of March  “Farmers month”.  And under the promotion, farmers would be receiving discounts when they shop at any of the TDC outlets on both St. Kitts and Nevis. He said this incentive would not only assist farmers in the shortterm but would have its longterm benefits.

“In the month of March the TDC Home and Building Depot will be celebrating farmers’ month from the 1st to the 31st and we would be offering a 20% discount to farmers on all agro products.”

Matthew said the promotion is open to all farmers from horticulturalists to livestock farmers.

“Our retail outlets in both St Kitts and Nevis would have creative instore displays to demonstrate to the public our commitment to the farming community. This promotion actually started last year but we are doing something different this year. On the 29th March we are having a Farmers Market so we will transform a section of the Home and Building Depot into a (place) where local farmers would be given the opportunity to sell their produce...”

He added that the Group - as part of the month - would be inviting regional counterparts of the farmers to conduct training seminars and would also act as a catalyst for networking amongst the farmers and also the Group.

The Marketing Assistant said the company’s instore lawn and gardening staff are currently out in the field visiting farms and giving tips to farmers where it is needed.

He further explained that over the years they have undertaken several ‘cause’-related projects and this year the Farmers Month promotion is no different from others they embarked on during that period of time.

“We did breast cancer awareness; we just did - in February - heart month which is a heart awareness campaign where we had a 20% discount on red electronics and red furniture.”

The company is also compiling a database of farmers living within the Federation so that it could have direct future contact with the farmers after the month would have been completed.
