Announcement on CPL in St. Kitts-Nevis expected on Tuesday

CPL’s Chief Operating Officer Pete Russell
By: SKNIS, Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 10, 2014 (SKNIS): Residents of St. Kitts and Nevis and the region will learn on Tuesday (March 11) just how successful the Government of the twin-island Federation was in its bid to host games for the 2014 Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

Senior Sports Officer in the Ministry of Sports Vernon Springer told SKNIS that the outcome will be announced during a signing ceremony and press conference slated for the St. Kitts Marriott Resort. Persons in attendance will include the Minister of Sports Honourable Glenn Phillip, Damien O’Donohoe, the Chief Executive Officer of the CPL and Pete Russell, the Chief Operating Officer of the CPL.

Recent enhancements to the Warner Park Cricket Stadium, which included an impressive outdoor sports lighting system that illuminates the test venue and the practice facility meters away, as well as a 44x22 foot jumbotron, makes St. Kitts and Nevis an intriguing option.

Officials from the CPL have visited the country in recent weeks touring the facility, assessing the infrastructure and meeting with security chiefs.

In January, Mr. Russell told SKNIS that he was very impressed with the efforts of and investment by the St. Kitts and Nevis Government to advance the game of cricket, locally and regionally.

Six teams contested the inaugural CPL Twenty20 tournament in 2013. The games were reportedly watched by an international television audience of more than 36 million.

The signing ceremony and press conference will be aired live on ZIZ Radio at 2 p.m.
