March 13th, 2014 -- "It was with great pleasure that the S.L Horsford family partnered with the History and Heritage Committee this year to host the annual Social Evening for Senior Citizens, held as part of the History and Heritage Month of Activities.
For two hours on Sunday 23 February some eighty plus seniors along with a few care-givers, officials and volunteers, entertained each
other in songs of praise, shared their knowledge of herbal remedies for common ailments (in keeping with the theme this year) and
reminisced on the tea meetings and services of song which were popular entertainments in their youthful days. The programme was led by Sub-committee chair, Sheila Morris and guitarist/raconteur/cultural researcher, Creighton Pencheon.
The History and Heritage Month of Activities, now in its 9th year, is an initiative of the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park Society
which, with the participation of the Nevis Historical and Conservation Society, the St. Christopher National Trust, the UWI Open Campus and other agencies and volunteers, seeks to promote greater awareness of and celebrate the history and heritage of our country.
The Senior Citizens Social Evening, at which refreshments are provided, takes place at Matheson House (headquarters of the Brimstone Hill Society) in collaboration with the Departments of Social & Community Development and Education of St.Kitts."
