    March 11th,  2014  --  The United Taekwondo Club (UTC) participated in the 21st Annual Taekwondo Championship, “Los Gallitos Olimpicos” at Coliseo Arguelio Torres in the City of San German, Puerto Rico on Sunday 9th March 2014. This International Taekwondo Championships saw over 495 Taekwondo athletes participating in this year’s events.

     

    There were a total of 53 teams that participated in these games, some of the countries were; USA, St. Barts, USVI, St. Martin, Dominican Republic, St. Kitts and Nevis and Puerto Rico many teams. At the end of the competition we placed 13. 

     

    Initially, the completions were scheduled for Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 March 2014, however, Saturday 8th March 2014 was designated by the Puerto Rico Sporting Authorities and Olympic Committee hosted a Taekwondo Competition for women to celebrate World Women’s Day.

    The United Taekwondo Club represented the Federation with 6 athletes;

    1. Antonette Hodge: First Place in Forms
    2. Joeann Davis: First Place in both Forms and Sparring
    3. Zidane Byron: Second Place in Sparring
    4. Giuseppe Garito: First Place in both Sparring and Forms
    5. Sekani Nisbett: Second Place in Sparring
    6. Saeed Richardson: Second Place in Sparring  
    Master Lincoln David-Pelle was the head of team and coach, also, Antonette was athlete and coach.  

    Antonette and Giuseppe went on to compete for the grand Championship Trophy in Forms but lost, however, Joeann won her Grand Championship trophy.

    This is the first time that these athletes have participated in completions of this nature and more so out of the Federation, they have done us proud.

    I therefore take this opportunity on my behalf, Master Lyndon David, and the United Taekwondo Club, to thank the parents/guardians and families of the athletes, Schools and work place for their support and assistance in permitting the athletes to attend these competitions. Also, a special thank you to the sponsors; TDC Home and Building Depot, Carib Brewery, Island Bakery and two (2) companies/organisation that wish to be anonymous for their generous donations and support in order to make the trip possible. 

    Thanks, appreciation and encouragement go out to the athletes for accepting the request to participate in these competitions,

    On Sunday 2 February 2014, we held a Board Breaking Demonstration to raise funds for these competitions, and we also take this opportunity to thank all those persons and companies who gave significant contributions, and the persons who purchased tickets.
