Basseterre, St.Kitts (Team UNITY Communications) -- The effort by the leader of the St.Kitts-Nevis Minority Government and illegitimate Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas to sell the people of St Vincent and the Grenadines half-truths and untruths, was denounced by Leader of the StKitts-Nevis United Opposition Team UNITY, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris.
Dr Harris told St.Vincent and the Grenadines’ NICE Radio on Wednesday 12 March that he was ready to debate anyone on the true state of the economy and that Dr Douglas was not giving an accurate reflection of the socio economic realities of St. Kitts and Nevis.
“When the illegitimate Prime Minister says all is well in St Kitts and Nevis, you have to understand that he is a stranger to the truth. For how can all be well, when we have suffered four (4) consecutive years of negative growth? How can all be well when we have one of the highest indebtedness in the world? How can all be well when on a per capita basis we ranked consistently among the ten (10) worst countries in homicides? How can all be well when we have an unemployment rate of 25(%) percent and a poverty rate of nearly 33(%) percent?
How can all be well when one of our premier high schools had to suspend classes because Labs were contaminated? How can all be well when our main hospital Joseph N France (J.N.F) has deteriorated in its delivery of health care to such an extent that patients have to send out of the hospital to buy medication for their treatment because none is available in our hospital? How can all be well when businesses are closing? How can all be well when a government whose term is invalidated continues to parade itself as the government and law and order and democracy are being trampled upon?” Team Unity’s Leader asked.
Dr Harris said “The illegitimate Prime Minister is living in a convenient world with Lex Consulting and its phenomenal multi-million dollar transactions while the poor could not pay their electricity bills, cable bills, water, medicines and mortgages.”
He repeated his challenge to the government to publish the list of electricity disconnections in the federation over the last 15 months. Dr Harris said he was prepared to debate anyone on the state of the economy and declared “None can gainsay that our economy is under performing!”
