Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 17, 2014 (SKNIS): Outstanding officers in Division ‘B’ of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force were recognized for their service to the community during the 4th Annual Police Award Ceremony held on Saturday (March 15).
His Excellency the Governor General and the Right Honourable Prime Minister joined members of the High Command and other ranks of the agency at Garvey’s Estate Great House in Boyds Village to pay tribute to officers stationed from Old Road west to Tabernacle.
Constable #722 Vivian Caesar received prizes in several categories including Most Outstanding Constable of 2013 at the Sandy Point Police Station, Promotional Exam Passes and Most Case Files Submitted at Court. The exemplary performance earned him the title of Division ‘B’s’ Most Outstanding Constable of the Year, for the second time in a row. Caesar spoke about the ingredients of his success.
“Dedication! You must love what you do and do it with a passion,” he emphasized. “I just want to thank each and everyone again who helped me in this award ceremony those who continued to push me. This is just a stepping and a starting for Caesar. I’m going for it next year again.”
Other constables recognized as Most Outstanding in their respective stations were #484 Patrice Dore of the Tabernacle Police Station, #546 Marsha Walters of the St. Pauls Police Station, #780 Marcella Simon of the Old Road Police Station and #708 Kevin Fahie formerly of the Dieppe Bay Police Station.
Additional awards in various categories were presented to Constables #450 Mark Handley, #540 Kashina Burke, #593 Andrea Battice, #643 Tamika Hodge, #707 Daniel Davy, #752 Jemie McGuire and #26 Anthony Kelly.
Head of the ministerial portfolio for police, Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas, summed up his congratulations in two words.
“Two of the most powerful words, in the English language are well done,” he stressed. “And that is why we are here this evening, to say to the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, well done. Today, crime is dramatically down and the nation owes this to the men and women in this room and to … your colleagues who are elsewhere throughout the Federation.”
Commissioner of Police Celvin G. Walwyn highlighted that a strong support system is necessary for the police to succeed.
“I know that those of you who are been awarded tonight for going above and beyond sometimes, your family [has] to make sacrifices, so I want us tonight to thank the families who support us in our job,” Commissioner Walwyn stated. “I want to thank the community, especially those of you who have been using Crime Stoppers to contact the police and helping us in our fight against crime.”
The Division ‘B’ Police Award Ceremony was held under the theme “Collaborating with the Community in Problem Solving.” Two persons from the community, namely Joseph Buchanan and Ernest Wigley were saluted for their support to the police.
