Basseterre, St. Kitts (March 18, 2014) – Extraordinary is nothing short of what twin boys J’Kaun and J’Kaune are achieving. Similar to typical six year olds, Kion and Kiondre (affectionately called by their middle names), take the bus to school every morning, participate in music classes, run for sports and are jovial as can be, but what makes them extraordinary is the fact that both are visually impaired.
Nurse Jurene Johnson who is the proud mother of these two incredible boys gives thanks for them every day. “When they were born, I noticed a white film covering their eyes and was told they were blind. I sought help for them but was wrongly advised to wait until they were two years old. However, it turned out that after waiting patiently for such a long time, the nerves in their eyes were now hardened and nothing could be done to correct their vision. I use to wonder why, but I see my boys as nothing but a blessing” were the passionate words of Jurene.
Kion and Kiondre are described by their Special Education Teacher as very jolly six year old twins who would bring life and laughter to anyone whom they come in contact with. The boys attend the Cotton-Thomas Comprehensive School where they are learning to read using brail, do simple math and are being taught how to spell.
The Digicel #SKNHappy Team coupled with a red velvet cake, balloons, a DL700 Smartphone with $100 credit (for mommy), $500 cash for the boys, school bags and many other Digicel trinkets, schemed with Nurse Johnson and travelled to the school to surprise these outstanding boys.
Upon entrance of the classroom, the boys were able to acknowledge the presence of their mom even without her saying a word. They screamed “Mommy you finished working?” which had everyone amazed at how they were able to recognize her.
Digicel’s Marketing Team then presented the boys with all the goodies to which warm smiles and hugs were shared from them. Other students in the class also showed gratitude to Digicel and expressed happiness for the twin boys by singing “Happy Birthday” in oblivion.
Digicel St. Kitts & Nevis’ “Extraordinary People” Campaign continues throughout the month of March whereby each Friday, one person will be recognized for being Extraordinary. Nominations can be submitted at any time via Digicel’s Facebook Page at: www.facebook.com/digicelstkittsandnevis.
