Great expectations at the Bits and Pieces Heritage Village Expo 2014

    GINGERLAND,Nevis,March 19, 2014 -- Nevisian Heritage Village, Fothergill’s located in Gingerland will be a hub of activities on Sarturday, March 22nd, 2014 from 9.30 a.m to 3.30 p.m  when local Nevisians and persons resident in Nevis display authentic art, craft,food,music amidst lots of fun activities.

     

    The cost of the tickets is only EC5.00. Children will get in free.

    The event, dubbed, Nevis’ Artistic Bits and Pieces is organized by Friends of the Nevisian Heritage Village and coordinated by Pam Barry former owner and manager of Golden Rock hotel who relocated to Nevis in the sixties.

    The Nevisian Heritage Village event’s theme is, “Go back in time, and appreciate our story, our old time village life and our architecture.”

    Those who patronize the event will see local talent at its best.  “At the Bits and Pieces event, there will be art and craft, a fashion show, lots of different foods, ital, vegetable burgers, and hot sauces, wonderful bowls made from mango and mahogany trees.  There will be bits and pieces made from broken china,” Barry said.

    “You get to see the little lovely buildings.  People will be walking in and out of the buildings.  They will be able to sit and have picnics on the grounds.  The Heritage Village is a park. It has the old stone buildings built in plantation days.  There is Caribbean architecture as well.

    Barry explained that  a non-profit, Friends of Fothergills and the Ministry of Tourism are collaborating to bring old West Indian houses to the village: “We are trying to bring the old wooden houses into the village so that we can preserve them.  We are going to embark on that in the near future.  We will start to tell stories of how people lived in those wooden buildings,” Barry explained.

    The objective of the event is to show the traditional way of life, “We are in the process of improving the village and making it lively and interactive.  We are showing different aspects of culture and how the culture developed and became so unique.” Barry called on parents to bring their young children to the event so they can see how their parents used to live.  She said traditional gardens have been re-enacted.”
