BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - A clarion call has been made for citizens and residents of St. Kitts and Nevis to support the National Under-16 Netball team as they endeavour to participate in the annual Jean Peirre Caribbean Netball Association Competition.
In an interview with SKNVibes, Public Relations Officer of the St. Kitts Netball Association (SKNA), Dominic Mathew stated that a squad is already in training for the tournament to be held next month.
“Presently, we have some young ladies under 16 who are preparing for a tournament in Antigua that will take place in April.
“Leading up to that event, they are working with Coach Hilarene Blanchette and the practice sessions are on Mondays and Fridays. I have the names of the members of the squad but I don’t want to announce them before they leave.”
He added that they are currently involved in a number of fundraisers and called on the public to support the team.
“Right now they are also engaged in a number of fundraisers where the public could support them. We had a take-away breakfast and we recently had a take-away dinner. It is very important that the public support the ladies because they are not just representing the sport, they are representing the country.”
Matthew is hoping that the experience the girls would gain by travelling to Antigua would help them realise their full potential.
“Coming off of this, it is hope that this experience can give the young girls an opportunity to recognise their full potential for whatever role they play on the team.
“Mrs. Blanchette has been working very hard with them to get them prepared, so that when they return from Antigua they can return the Federation to the winning circles we once had.”
