BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – BASSETERRE HIGH SCHOOL (BHS) are the champions of the inaugural TDC I Rep My School Rally held at the Independence Square on Friday (Mar. 21) afternoon.

The event was organised to present the competing learning institutions to the public, using cheers, chants, dance moves and upbeat music in between demonstrations in an effort to promote next weekend’s Interschool Championships and its sponsors.

Despite being in the spotlight following a controversy at the school, the teachers and students of BHS came out and prove to the general public that the school’s pride and spirit were alive and well.

In a special presentation, Principal Carlene Henry-Morton rang her famous bell to send a message to the other participating schools that BHS have the finest athletes and reminded that the school was dubbed the birthplace of champions.

The performance also featured an iron band made up of students and the blowing of their whistles.

The BHS students further showed their pride by shouting their school’s moto - “Principia Non Homines” - which was followed by the chanting of “Put your right hand in the air and your left hand on your chest and pledge I swear to love BHS” to the tune of the song ‘Take de Oath’ by King Konris.

Second place went to the Charles E Mills Secondary School (CEMSS), which, with the help of a marching band, reminded that they are the most successful school in track and field history.

They also used a unique pattern in spelling out the abbreviation of the school.

The winning school won a cannon copier, complements TDC, and the championship trophy.

Second place winners also received a copier.

The other participating schools were Verchild’s High, Saddlers Secondary and the defending TDC Inter-School Champions, Washington Archibald High.

The event also saw performances by local artistes Mr. Bagnall, Jazzbo, Mr. Hype and Footsy.

The students and teacher from BHS then paraded in jubilation all the way back to the school to the music of their iron band in celebration of their victory.
