BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE four men charged with the murder of Sheldon ‘Sword’ Cannonier would soon stand trial at the Basseterre High Court, as the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) determined that the Crown indeed had sufficient evidence against them.

The PI concluded sometime last week with the men - Kimo Flemming of Trafalgar Village, Sylvester ‘Syl’ Crossley of Fort Thomas Road, Shane Amory of New Road Housing and Vance Thomas of Fort Thomas Road - being sent back to Her Majesty's Prison to await their trial date.

The PI began on February 18 and paused on several occasions.

Cannonier was shot dead on Sunday, June 2, 2013 after he exited a church service at the Rivers of Living Water Christian Centre in Lime Kiln.

Initially, Crossley, Amory and Thomas were charged approximately one week after the offence was committed and a fourth individual was being sought by the authorities.

A police press release issued on June 29, 2013 informed that a warrant of arrest had been issued by the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force for the arrest of Kimo Flemming of Trafalgar Village in relation to the incident.

He was taken into custody by the local authorities just one week before the PI began.

In a release issued on February 21 by the Police Force’s Press and Public Relations Officer Inspector Lyndon David, it was disclosed that Flemming, “a wanted fugitive in the cowardly and senseless murder of Sheldon ‘Sword’ Cannonier has been arrested in Antigua and deported to the Federation.

“Flemming, who is allegedly the son of slain community leader, Noel ‘Zambo’ Heath, fled the Federation after his picture was featured as a person of interest in Sword’s murder...”

The release explained that the wanted man was formally charged with Sword’s murder on February 16, 2014.

The men are expected to be tried sometime during the May 2014 Criminal Assizes.
