    COMMUNITY POLICING IN NEVIS

The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, in continuing its mandate of community outreach and keeping within the philosophy of Community Policing, the Nevis High Command last week conducted a Meet and Greet in villages outside of Charlestown.

Fostering a strong and positive relationship within the communities it serves, and in which its members live and work, is very important to the success or failure of any organisation; the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force is no exception.

Nevis' Assistant Commissioner of Police, Robert Liburd, in keeping with the mandates of the Force, conducted the Meet and Greet in the communities of Pond Hill and Clay Ghaut. The Meet and Greet team consisted of Assistant Commissioner of Police Robert Liburd, Superintendent Hilroy Brandy, Sergeant Joy Bartlette and members of the Gingerland Police Station, the Task Force, Constable Derell Boon and Constable Lori the police dog.

The community interacted with the officers and shared their concerns about criminal activities within their communities. ACP Liburd informed them of strategies that were in place to continue the 28% reduction of crime experienced in Nevis last month despite the challenges encountered.

ACP Liburd took the opportunity to thank the communities for their continued support to the Nevis Division of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force and encouraged them to continue calling and reporting their tips on criminal activity to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 or the Commissioner at 662-2145 if they cannot get through to Crime Stoppers. More Meet and Greets are planned for the other communities in Nevis.

    POLICING AS A CAREER

Each year the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force along with other government departments and the Private Sector are invited to participated the schools' career fairs. The objective of these fairs is to expose the students to some of the various career choices that are available to them locally, and to start thinking of and preparing for a career. These fairs are very important to the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Force because of the opportunity given to engage the students at their schools and exposing them to some of the things we do using modern techniques and strategies to fight and solve crime.

On Friday 21 March 2014, the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force participated in the Basseterre High School Career Fair at the school's compound and was represented by Inspector Lyndon David, No. 503 Sergeant Carl Greaux, No. 789 Constable Kyle Dunrod and No. 814 Constable Hendrickson.

The officers presentation included a display various pieces of uniform worn by the various ranks at different occasions, power point presentation, and a presentation from the Crime Scene Kit. The presentation from the Crime Scene Unit was one of the areas of interest; many of the students are intrigued with the collection, and examination of evidence, and double casting of bullets.

Commissioner CG Walwyn takes this opportunity to thank the organisers for inviting the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force to participate in this event in an effort to encourage school leavers to be aware of career opportunities that exists within the force and want to be a member.
